What does Grow to Order mean?To ensure that you receive the freshest product possible, and that we do not create unnecessary waste, we "Grow to Order". This means literally that we only grow what was ordered. We want to do the best job we can to consistently provide you with the best product possible, and in order to do that we follow a production & delivery schedule made up of weekly repeating "cycles". Each cycle consists of sowing (planting), growing, and harvesting, which for the majority of microgreen varieties takes about 12 days. And that is super fast if you consider that most full grown vegetables need 40-70 days. Wow! Each cycle has an order cut off date. If an order is receive after a cut off date it will be included in the following cycle. Certain varieties like micro herbs need a little more time to reach their optimal harvesting stage. If you include any of these in your preferences we will let you know and offer a substitution for your first delivery. Check Our Calendar to find out where we are at in our schedule and when you can expect your first delivery.

What kind of packaging do you use?We package our microgreens for delivery in clamshell containers made of highly recyclable and BPA free PET plastic. These containers are accepted by, and recyclable at, our local facilities. Although there are a lot of packaging products available on the market that are marked as plant-based and compostable, these materials require a specialized process in order to be composted or recycled. After researching the capabilities of our local facilities, we discovered that unfortunately our local plants are unable to compost or recycle these innovative materials and instead they end up in our landfill. For more information about what is accepted and what isn't in your area, visit: City of North Vancouver - green bin guidelines District of North Vancouver - green bin guidelines City of Vancouver - green bin guidelines Recycle BC (recycling plant for CNV and DNV) GFL Environmental (recycling partner for City of Vancouver) Containers are delivered in recyclable brown paper bags.

What are those little black/brown bits stuck to my greens? The seed husks of certain microgreen varieties cling to or remain attached to the greens. They are safe to eat and in some cases even add flavour to the microgreen. Our microgreens are grown from sees that have been tested and are verified to be free of pathogens, and have never been treated. That being said, a select few varieties have very hard husks that should not be consumed. We take care to quality control all our harvests but occasionally a sneaky husk might evade us. Use the table below to find out which seed husks to avoid. If you're unsure, email us a photo and we'll let you know.

How should I store my microgreens? The shelf-life of your microgreens is highly dependent on proper storage. To maximize their shelf-life, microgreens must be kept refrigerated. Greens should be stored in the container that you purchased them in, and not washed until right before use. After harvest, the plants may release some moisture from their stems. If you notice condensation building up in your container, place a small piece of paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Remove this towel once saturated. We recommend that you consume your greens within 10 days of the harvest date. Although we have been told that our greens keep well for 14 days, and sometimes longer 😊

Why do some of my sunflower microgrens have yellow tips?Yellow or light green tips on sunflower microgreens are perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. They signify that a stubborn seed hull was late to come off, and that particular part of the leaf didn't have a chance to fully photosynthesize before harvest.

Are your microgreens non-GMO and Organic? We grow our microgreens strictly from seeds certified as non-GMO. Some seeds are also certified Organic. To find out whether a particular variety is certified Organic check its details in the microgreens menu. We grow our greens naturally: indoors in a controlled environment using soil-less growing mediums free of composted materials and animal byproducts without the use of pesticides without the use of chemical fertilizers

How can I tell if my microgreens have spoiled?Easy ways to tell if your microgreens are spoiling or have spoiled: they're wilting their colour has changed (for example, they're turning yellow, brown or black) they have an "off" or swampy smell you can see sludge and/or fuzz forming If in doubt, throw them out. Spoiled microgreens - like any spoiled vegetable or fruit - can lead to gastrointestinal discomfort and food poisoning.

What is a microgreen and is it the same as a sprout?Microgreens are quite simply the shoots of vegetables (and other edible plants) generally harvested just after the very first leaves, called cotyledon leaves, develop. While microgreens are grown using soil or a soil-less medium (including hydroponically), sprouts are vegetable seeds that are germinated submerged in water, often in jars, and consumed earlier in the cycle. Both sprouts and microgreens are considered living foods. Living foods are foods which are alive at time of consumption, sprouted foods, cultured foods, foods still growing, and/or foods with their enzymes intact.

What is the best way to wash my microgreens?Microgreens should only be washed right before use. Washing your microgreens and storing them wet will reduce their shelf life. Being super young plants most varieties of microgreens are quite delicate. Though some (like peas, sunflower and fava) can tolerate a rinse and spin, we find that the best way to wash your microgreens is to: Place them in a fine mesh strainer Immerse in a bowl of cool water for a moment Gently agitate by moving the strainer side to side Toss them onto a clean kitchen towel or paper towel Gently pat-dry - careful not to bruise them - or let them air dry a bit while you continue prep Note that if left in the open air - wet or dry - for an extended period of time, microgreens can wilt. Alternatively, while in the fine mesh strainer, run them under gently flowing cool water for a moment and then toss onto a towel to dry. Our microgreens are grown from untreated seeds that are verified to be pathogen free. We do not use pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and grow our microgreens in soil-less mediums free of composted material and animal byproducts.
